Amazing Baby is a Brooklyn-based quintet with a style reminiscent of a spaced-out stagger and cheap sunglasses. They arrived in Toronto at the Phoenix concert theater in support of well, the band Phoenix—and let me tell you, it’s refreshing to see a band using big guitars in a psychedelic setting. It turns out fancy fretwork and harmonized guitar licks can accommodate beats, synthesizers, a little reverb and some Brooklyn-esque vocal styles.

The Amazing Baby sound is a balanced dose of vintage rock and futuristic experimentation—the perfect cerebral/visceral cocktail. While the indie-geeks listen and scratch their beards, the club goers can still seamlessly dance along at a steady pace. If you go to their show, which we highly recommend, be prepared to hear at least one concert-goer exclaim in their best Austin Powers impersonation “It’s amazing baby, yeahhh”! They are pretty good, but please, refrain from indulging in the proclamation yourself; it’s been done, a lot.

At first glance they seem like natural-born rockers, having fun and living for the moment. Beneath the weathered rock 'n’ roll glow though, Amazing Baby is a group of witty and perceptive, soft-hearted pop artists enjoying their time in the sun.
